The case against Vedant Agarwal, the 17-year-old who allegedly killed two people early Sunday while driving under influence, has taken an interesting turn. There were allegations of Agarwal receiving preferential treatment during his brief stay at the police station after fatally crashing his Porsche. On Thursday evening, reports emerged that senior level officers will probe these allegations.
As per NDTV, Assistant Commissioner of Police Ashwini Rakh will quiz officers and staff at the police station in Yerwada, where the complaint was first filed. Police allegedly underplayed the horrific nature of the incident while filing the complaint and delayed a medical examination, which is likely to have hampered proceedings.
Another allegation that the cops are facing is showing more interest in ‘investigating’ Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta – the 24-year-old software professionals who died in the crash.
A Maharashtra-based politician has also claimed that the teenager was served pizzas and burgers while in police custody. Former Lok Sabha MP Prakash Ambedkar, the chief of Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, took to X to make the allegations. “Officers at Yerawada police station spent more time questioning the relationship between Anish and Ashwini — the two IT professionals who were fatally knocked down by the drunk minor — while the accused was allegedly served burger and pizza,” part of his tweet read.
Ambedkar raised six questions in his post, one of which read: “Why was the alcohol test done after 8 hours?”

Meanwhile, the teenager was sent to observation home till June 5, after the Juvenile Justice Board cancelled the bail, which was given to him just hours after the accident on Sunday. His previous bail conditions, which included writing a 300-word essay on the ‘effects of road accidents’, was ridiculed and mocked by social media users. The bail was cancelled after three days following a public outcry.
The boy’s father, Vishal Agarwal, has also been arrested by police on Monday. Vedant’s grandfather, Surendra Kumar Agarwal, is facing a trial with gangster Chhota Rajan before the special court in Mumbai, in connection with the firing on Shiv Sena leader Ajay Bhosle in 2009.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reacts to Pune Porsche crash
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has weighed in on the accident. The 53-year-old politician questioned the police over the alleged preferential treatment.
“When a teen from a rich family drinks alcohol and kills two people in a Porsche… he is told to pen an ‘essay’. Why are bus, truck, and auto drivers, or cabbies, not asked to write such essays?” he was quoted as saying by NDTV.
“The question is of equal justice (for) the poor and prosperous…” he said.
