Shaktimaan, the Indian superhero whose weekend appearance on national TV used to be a popular affair with kids of the 90s, will soon be released on the big screen with Ranveer Singh playing the iconic character.
The film will be directed by Basil Joseph.
The original role for the small screen was played by Mukesh Khanna.
The film is expected to be released in 2026.
“Right after Don 3, it’s time for Shaktimaan. The film has been in the writing stage for over 3 years now and the team has finally cracked a script that’s worthy of doing justice to the legacy of Shaktimaan. The film will be directed by Basil Joseph, with Sony Pictures India and Sajid Nadiadwala as the producers,” a source told Pinkvilla.
Apart from Shaktimaan, Ranveer will also be busy in the upcoming days shooting for Farhan Akhtar’s directorial venture Don 3 and Rohit Shetty’s ‘Singham Again’.
“Ranveer will undergo workshops to get into the part of Don. He considers this film as a big responsibility as he will be the third generation of Don after Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. Farhan is targeting to take Don 3 on floors from August/September 2024,” the source told Pinkvilla.
Before Singh, the iconic character of Don was played by Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan.
Shaktimaan: the superhero who won hearts in 90s
Created by Mukesh Khanna, the show was aired on DD National from 13 September 1997 to 27 March 2005.
Producer Mukesh Khanna played the role of Shaktimaan and his goofy alter ego “Pandit Gangadhar Vidhyadhar Mayadhar Omkarnath Shastri”, a photographer for the newspaper “Aaj Ki Aawaz”.
Shaktimaan was depicted as a human who has attained superhuman powers through meditation and five elements of nature: Space, Earth, Air, Fire, Water. Kitu Gidwani (later replaced by Vaishnavi Mahant) played the role of Geeta Vishwas, a reporter who loves Shaktimaan.
