Legendary Indian actress Rekha was awarded Lifetime Achievement Award at the ongoing Dubai International Film Festival. The award is a tribute to her contribution to Hindi cinema,which displayed through a career spanning 40 years in Bollywood. She was given the award along with Hollywood actor Samuel L Jackson and French Lebanese composer Gabriel Yared.
Clad in a dazzling gold brocade sari, Rekha looked ravishing at the event. While displaying her love for Dubai city, she said, “The saying goes love thy neighbour and that’s not the only reason I love Dubai. Many years ago when I first stepped in this place, I knew it was god’s place. I’ve seen you go from strength to strength.”
Rekha was present at Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai for a press event and photo call for Dubai International Film Festival. She shimmered in a Parisian styled outfit at the event. While thanking DIFF, Rekha said, “I am deeply touched and humbled by this gracious gesture of the Dubai International Film Festival. I have a special place in my heart for the UAE and it is commendable that DIFF is recognising and honouring us artistes and filmmakers from all over the world.”
She started her acting career as a child artist in Telugu films and continued to make her debut as a lead in the Bollywood film, Sawan Bhadon (1970). Often playing strong female leads, Rekha is recognized as one of the greatest actresses in Hindi cinema and has gone on to win three Filmfare Awards, two for Best Actress and one for Best Supporting Actress, for her roles in Khubsoorat (1980), Khoon Bhari Maang (1988) and Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi (1996).She has also won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her impressive portrayal of a classic courtesan in Umrao Jaan (1981). In 2010, the Government of India awarded her with the prestigious Padma Shri, to highlight her notable impact in the world of Indian cinema.
