Away from the humdrum of life, Singaporeans can expect a close rendezvous with Nature on October 28 and 29 during the NParks’ Parks Festival. The fun-filled weekend will feature more than 50 activities at about five parks in Singapore including Admiralty Park, Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, Esplanade Park, Pasir Ris Park and Jurong Central Park.
People can expect participating in mass exercises such as Zumba and KpopX Fitness and nature lovers can try their hand at harvesting vegetables and creating their own aquarium.
Through a press release, NParks said, “For the first time, visitors can enjoy themed activities at five of our parks over one weekend. We will provide the community an opportunity to gather and bond with one another over shared spaces and common interests.”
Regarding the various fun filled activities at Admiralty Park, NParks said, “Visitors can enjoy Family Fun, Sports and Wellness activities and participate in mass exercises such as Zumba and KpopX Fitness, pick up safe cycling tips, and get active at ActiveSG Outdoor Play Challenge. Children will be entertained by balloon sculptors and street performances such as juggling and acrobatics by The Annoying Brothers.
For nature lovers, there will be gardening activities at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park. Visitors can try their hand at harvesting herbs and vegetables, learn how to create their own aquarium, test their five senses by completing a simple task at the newly opened Therapeutic Garden and purchase fresh greens at the Farmers’ Market.
For artistically inclined and lover of arts and culture, people should go to the Esplanade Park for arts and culture activities. They can create their own paper flower fridge magnets, interact with art installations, enjoy live performances and join the sketching and heritage tours.
Nature lovers will be thrilled to join tours where they can spot Singapore’s rich biodiversity such as Grey Herons, Giant Mudskippers and Vinegar Crabs at the mangroves in Pasir Ris Park. They will also learn more about Singapore’s diverse flora and fauna at exhibition booths and through fringe activities such as glow-in-the-dark colouring.
For music lovers, there is also NParks Concert Series in the Park: Rockestra which will be held in conjunction with Parks Festival at Jurong Central Park (Event Lawn) on 28 October at 6.30pm. This edition will be themed “Mando & Cantopop”, featuring Xinyao, Mando and Cantopop hits. They will be performed by Alfred Sim, Hao Hao, The TENG Ensemble, The JumpStart and Tay Kexin.
Concert-goers will enjoy singing along to their favourite hits by Jay Chou, Mayday, Jacky Cheung, Teresa Teng and other popular artistes.
