Sudha Murthy, wife of India’s tech pioneer and Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy and mother-in-law of UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, has reportedly said in a video that she made her husband a businessman and her daughter Akshata Murthy made her husband the prime minister.
Sunak, the former UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, became UK Prime Minister in October 2022 in a remarkably rapid ascent. He and his wife Akshata maintain strong Indian roots, and they have an avid following in India as well as among the Indian diaspora.
In a video being circulated online, Sudha Murthy, who is a distinguished author and philanthropist and became the recipient of the Padma Bhushan award this year, referred to the “glory of the wife”. She said, “See how a wife can change a husband. But I could not change my husband. I made my husband a businessman, and my daughter made her husband a Prime Minister.”
