Sania Mirza’s father reacts to rumours about tennis icon’s marriage with cricketer Mohammed Shami

Rumours are rife that Sania Mirza, India’s most successful female tennis player, and ace cricketer Mohammed Shami, are tying the knot. Mirza, who was married to former Pakistan cricket captain Shoaib Malik, finalised her divorced earlier this year. Shami too is separated from his wife Hasin Jahan. Naturally, the alleged linkup generated a lot of interest.

However, the reports have been squashed by Sania’s father, Imran. He told NDTV: “This is all rubbish. She has not even met him.”

Mirza, the former world No. 1 in the women’s doubles ranking, recently embarked on Haj, the annual pilgrimage for Muslims. The retired professional also worked as a pundit for French Open 2024.

The 37-year-old announced on social media that she was getting ready for a ‘transformative experience’, and she hoped to become a better human being.

Sharing a note on Instagram on June 9, Sania wrote: “As I prepare for this transformative experience, I humbly ask for your forgiveness for any wrongdoings and shortcomings.”

She added: “I am deeply fortunate and feel immensely grateful. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I embark on this journey of a lifetime. I hope to come back as a better human being with a humble heart and stronger Imaan.”
