Indian-American representative for California, Ami Bera has been elected as the ranking member of the Space Subcommittee of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology.
Bera, a Democrat is serving his third term on the Science, Space and Technology Committee since being elected to the 113th Congress in 2013.
“As a kid who grew up during the height of the space race dreaming of what lay beyond us, it’s an honour to be selected to serve as the ranking member of the Subcommittee on Space,” Bera said in a statement.
“I look forward to working with my colleagues to continue our nation’s leading tradition of innovation in space for the 115th Congress,” he added.
Bera is the representative for California's 7th congressional district and has served since Jan 3, 2013. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from the University of California at Irvine. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the same university in 1991. He served as an associate dean for admissions at the UC Davis School of Medicine and later served as the chief medical officer for the County of Sacramento.
