Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will visit Pakistan on October 15 and 16 to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting in Islamabad.
Islamabad is hosting the meeting this year.
India had formally received an invitation from Pakistan for the upcoming SCO Council of Heads of Government meeting.
“The external affairs minister will lead our delegation to Pakistan to participate in the SCO summit which will be held in Islamabad on October 15 and 16,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
According to reports, the last External Affairs Minister to visit Pakistan was late Sushma Swaraj in 2015.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is a permanent intergovernmental international organization established on June 15, 2001 in Shanghai (PRC) by the Republic of Kazakhstan, the People’s Republic of China, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan. Its predecessor was the mechanism of the Shanghai Five, as per the official website.
India is one of the key members of the group.
