With a large local marketplace in Singapore, Amazon customers in the island state will now be able to enjoy a wider variety of products.
Amid intensifying competition with rivals such as Alibaba's Lazada and Sea's Shopee, the US-based company will now also allow small and medium-sized businesses to offer their products to online shoppers through Amazon.sg.
In addition, local businesses can leverage Amazon's fulfilment service to "scale swiftly and reach even more customers."
Amazon launched its online shopping platform in Singapore over two years ago, offering its fast delivery service through a mobile app. However, its initial local selection focused on groceries and household essentials, and was overshadowed by rivals.
"With Amazon.sg, we want to provide what customers have been asking us for: the ability for everyone to shop on desktop and mobile, more local and international selection from Amazon and trusted sellers, paired with fast and reliable delivery," said Henry Low, Amazon Singapore country manager, in a statement.
Amazon Prime members in Singapore will get free one-day delivery on an expanded selection of goods with Amazon.sg. They are also entitled to free international shipping for products on its international store.
