The Port of Singapore has been named the “Best Seaport in Asia” for the 30th time at the 2018 Asia Freight, Logistics and Supply Chain Awards (AFLAS), according to a government press release.
Held in Shanghai on May 15, the AFLAS awards is organised by freight and logistics publication Asia Cargo News.
Its aim is to honour organisations for demonstrating leadership as well as consistency in service quality, innovation, customer relationship management and reliability.
Based on votes cast by readers of Asia Cargo News, the Port of Singapore clinched the award for its leading performance on a range of criteria. These include cost competitiveness, provision of suitable container shipping-related infrastructure, timely and adequate investment in new infrastructure to meet future demand.
"The maritime sector is undergoing significant transformation. As a leading maritime centre, Singapore is positioning itself for the future by strengthening its connectivity, innovation and talent," said Mr Andrew Tan, Chief Executive of Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).
"We are honoured by this recognition and thank our partners for their strong vote of confidence. MPA will continue to work closely with all our stakeholders to strengthen our competitiveness as a premier global hub port and international maritime centre,” he added.
The other finalists for the “Best Seaport in Asia” category this year were the Port of Hong Kong, Port of Shanghai and Port of Shenzhen.
