Singapore-based video game studio Fntastic has stopped operation, just five days after its highly-anticipated game, The Day Before, tanked. The company announced the closure through an official statement on December 12, 2023.
“Today, we announce the closure of Fntastic studio. Unfortunately, The Day Before has failed financially, and we lack the funds to continue. All income received is being used to pay off debts to our partners,” the Singapore-headquartered company said in a statement.
“We apologise if we didn’t meet your expectations. We did everything within our power, but unfortunately, we miscalculated our capabilities.”
The Day Before is an open-world post-apocalyptic survival massively multiplayer online game (MMOG). While the game released a few days ago, the original date was set for June 2022.
Meanwhile, Fntastic also stated that the company and its partners are working to allow refunds for those who seek it. The sudden announcement hasn’t gone down well in the gaming community.
Gaming community not happy
One X user tweeted: “Unbelievable that you guys hyped this game up so much and this is the end result. You guys are an absolute disgrace to the video game industry.”
Defending it’s position, the studio replied: “This was our first big experience. S**t happens.” This only angered the users, who shot back and tore into the company for ‘lies’ and ‘misleading’ customers.
