Singapore is the top favourite holiday destination in Asia Pacific (APAC) for travellers from China, according to a Hotels.com survey released on Tuesday, July 18.
This trend is expected to continue in the next 12 months, according to the online accommodation booking website’s Chinese International Travel Monitor.
“Given the rising middle-class in China, and their vast disposable income, countries cannot ignore the impact that Chinese tourists can have on a country’s economy,” said Jessica Chuang, regional marketing director, Greater China, South-east Asia and India, Hotels.com.
One of the key factors why tourists from China are favouring Singapore, is due to its reputation as one of the safest cities. Safety is ranked one of the most important considerations in the survey, said Hotels.com.
Tourist numbers from China to Singapore have increased sharply since the relaxation of visa regulations for China nationals in 2015. In the first quarter of 2017, China visitors increased by 13.7 per cent, replacing Indonesia as the fastest growing market for tourist arrivals in Singapore, Reuters said in a report on July 18.
In addition, the research also revealed that on average, these Chinese tourists about seven days in Singapore, with an average expenditure of S$610 per day.
The study was conducted with China travellers, aged 18 to 57 years old, who have travelled overseas in the past 12 months. The research combined data from more than 3,000 international travellers from China and over 3,800 Hotels.com accommodation partners globally, together with Hotels.com’s own data and other third-party research.
