Singapore's Health Promotion Board (HPB) will be setting up Regional Screening Centres for COVID-19 across the island, said Minister Lawrence Wong, who co-chairs the Multi-Ministry Taskforce on COVID-19.
The initiative is part of the country's "scaled-up testing regime," he said in a Facebook post.
"We now have five Centres at the Old Police Academy, The Float@Marina Bay, Bishan sport hall, Bukit Gombak sport hall and the former Sepak Takraw sport hall in Bedok, and we will set up more venues over time to support the testing needs in the community."
For the time being, the centres will not be taking in walk-in requests for testings.
Workers with higher risk of exposure will be identified and sent to the centres for periodic testing. These include those working in construction, marine and process industries, as well as those in the frontline COVID-19 operations, Wong said.
"Doctors will also provide referral letters to their patients with acute respiratory infections, and they can go to these centres for testing."
More groups can be tested at these centres once the testing capacity has been expanded, Wong added.
