The Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia has confirmed the return of a man from Andhra Pradesh who was stranded in the Gulf Nation after being duped by an agent who promised to give him a job in Qatar.
The Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia posted on X: “Few days back, plight of an Indian National, Mr Veerendra Kumar was brought to the attention of the Embassy. We are happy to announce that he has safely returned to now. We wish to thank all the community volunteers who worked with the Embassy to ensure his safe return to India.”
The Indian national, who was identified as Veerendra Kumar, arrived in Hyderabad on Friday night where his family members welcomed him.
Veerendra had appealed for help through a video on social media, following which Andhra Pradesh minister Nara Lokesh had promised to rescue him, reported Khaleej Times.
According to reports, Veerendra said he was cheated by an agent who promised him a job.
He reportedly arrived in Qatar on July 10 and was sent to Saudi Arabia later.
The Indian national complained he was asked to work as a camel herder in the desert and was not provided with any kind of basic amenities.
He said in the video that he was unable to sustain in the harsh weather conditions, reported The News Minute.
He appealed to the Indian minister that he would die in the hard conditions.
