Co-hosts USA secured an impressive win against Pakistan during their group game at the ongoing T20 Cricket World Cup. This marks the second win in a row in this tournament for the US team, and a significant setback for the Pakistan team that appeared rather dull in the match.
USA’s tenacity was noteworthy as they managed to endure pressure imposed by their seasoned counterparts. USA’s ability to compete consistently, particularly during the critical moments, like the nail-biting super-over, highlighted their superior poise.
The responsibility for the loss rests with Pakistan, plagued by sloppy execution and lack of synergy, which ultimately led to conceding 18 pivotal runs in the super over, which was necessitated as both teams made equal number of runs by the end of the regular 20 overs. Overwhelmed, Pakistan’s batsmen couldn’t meet the challenge, paving the way for a notable victory for Team USA.
Earlier in the day, USA skipper Monank Patel won the toss and asked Babaz Azam to bat first. The men in green managed 159 runs for the loss of seven wickets. In reply, USA equalled the score, but lost just the three wickets. Batting first in the super over, the co-hosts scored 18 runs for the loss of one wicket. Pakistan were halted at 13 for the loss of one.
Patel was adjudged the player of the match for his match-winning 50 off 38 balls. USA will now take on India on June 12, while Pakistan will lock horns with arch-rivals India on June 9.
With two wins under their belts, USA are now placed at the top of Group A, ahead of India, who has one win from their only game in the tournament so far.
