Bareilly Ki Barfi, directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari and written by Nitesh Tiwari of Dangal fame, is set to bewitch us with its trailer launched today.
The movie is rooted in the sub-culture of young India’s rustic heartland. A slice of life tale, the quirky ride of unexpectedness sees the characters’ paths intermingle in search of ‘true love’.
Amongst the cluster of homes in Bareilly resides the amusing Mishra family. The only ‘life loving ‘daughter of theirs’ Bitti Mishra (Kriti Sanon) works at the electricity board, is a casual smoker, watches English movies and loves breakdancing. Bitti’s free spiritedness does not translate into finding a suitable groom and she concludes she is a misfit in this small-town.
Facing the complexities of getting married and feeling pressured, impulsive Bitti decides to run away from home. At the railway book stall, she stumbles upon a novel called Bareilly Ki Barfi. Surprisingly the female protagonist of the novel reads exactly like her. Is there someone like her too in this closeted town, or someone who really knows and understands her? Dropping the idea of running away, with renewed zest Bitti goes back in search of the author of Bareilly Ki Barfi, Pritam Vidrohi (Rajkumarr Rao) with the help of the printing-press owner and publisher of the novel, Chirag Dubey (Ayushmann Khurana).
Nitesh Tiwari, who directed the hugely successful Dangal, is the mastermind behind the story line of Bareilly Ki Barfi.
Ashwiny Iyer is the latest to join the bandwagon of successful female directors making their mark in Bollywood with debut Nil Battey Sannata, which managed to impress both the critics and the audience.
The movie is scheduled to be released on August 18.
