India’s joy knew no bounds on Tuesday as the Indian cricket team defeated Australia in the fourth Test at Brisbane to win the series 2-1. The fact that the team had overcome injury upon injury to wrap up the series win made the victory extra special.
Coach Ravi Shastri had some special words for the victorious team in the dressing room after the historic win.
"It doesn’t come overnight but now that you have this self-belief, you can see where you have taken a game as a team. Today forget India, the whole world will stand up and salute you," Shastri told the team in a video shared by the BCCI.
India’s young cricketers stood out throughout the series and Shastri lavished praise on the youngsters as well.
He praised Shubman Gill for his great innings of 91. He called Cheteshwar Pujara “the ultimate warrior” after he took blows to the body repeatedly but held on to tie up one end with a 211-ball 56 in India's second innings.
He told Rishabh Pant that he was "simply outstanding", despite having given some heart attacks while batting.
And he praised debutants Washington Sundar and T Natarajan, as well as Shardul Thakur.
