Tulsi Gabbard meets Narendra Modi, discusses ways to enhance cooperation in tackling terrorism

United States’ Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard met India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Monday evening.

During their meeting, PM Modi presented the US intel chief with a vase filled with Ganga water from Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj, which hosted the Maha Kumbh recently.

This is Gabbard’s second meeting with the Indian Prime Minister in two months.

The two met in February when Modi was in Washington D.C. for bilateral talks with President Donald Trump.

Modi and Gabbard discussed ways to enhance cooperation to tackle threats like terrorism and cybersecurity, and “set the tone and vision for a stronger India-US partnership”.

Earlier, Gabbard met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and discussed avenues to collaborate in cutting-edge defence innovation and niche technologies.

“Drawing from the Joint Statement issued after the recent meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with US President Mr Donald Trump, the discussions reaffirmed the growing strength of the India-US bilateral defence partnership,” read the government statement.

Both leaders emphasised that strategic security remains a vital pillar of the comprehensive global strategic cooperation between the two nations.

She also met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar during which she had a useful exchange on contemporary global and regional security challenges.
