In the ever-expanding universe of the ultra-wealthy, 2024 marks yet another remarkable chapter. As many as 25 new Indian billionaires debuted on the Forbes World’s Billionaires List 2024.
The list revealed an interesting figure: a staggering 2,781 individuals worldwide have ascended to the elite status of billionaire, collectively contributing to a whopping net worth of USD 14.2 trillion. This marks a surge of USD 2 trillion from the previous year, highlighting the growth of wealth among the global elite.
India, which has 200 billionaires, ranks third. USA occupies the first position with 813 billionaires. China, with 473 (with Hong Kong), is placed second.
Last year, 169 billionaires from India featured on the list.
“To calculate net worths, we used stock prices and exchange rates from March 8, 2024,” Forbes stated.

The Indian Top 10 list is dominated by Mukesh Ambani. Overall, the chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries is placed 9th with USD 116 billion.
Gautam Adani is 17th with USD 84 billion. HCL founder Shiv Nadar is 39th with USD 36.9 billion.
Savitri Jindal & family is 46th with USD 33.5 billion. Dilip Shanghvi, founder of Sun Pharmaceuticals, is at the 69th position with USD 26.7 billion.
Cyrus Poonawalla, Managing Director of the Serum Institute of India, which manufactured the Covishield vaccine to treat the novel coronavirus, is 90th with USD 21.3 billion.
Kushal Pal Singh is 92nd with USD 20.9 billion, Kumar Mangalam Birla at 98th with USD 19.7 billion, Radhakishan Damani at 107th with USD 17.6 billion, and Lakshmi Mittal at 113rd with USD 16.4 billion.
Who are the new notable Indian billionaires?
Notable additions include Dr Naresh Trehan, a prominent cardiac surgeon-turned-healthcare entrepreneur, renowned for his ownership of the Medanta chain of hospitals.
Ramesh Kunhikannan, founder of Kaynes Technology, is placed 2152nd on the list.
Another new entrant is Renuka Jagtiani, who is overseeing the Landmark Group. She inherited her wealth from her late husband Micky Jagtiani.

At the top is Bernard Arnault of France, with a net worth of USD 233 billion. Elon Musk, with USD 195 billion, is second. Closely following is Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, with USD 194 billion.
Mark Zuckerberg is fourth with a net worth of USD 177 billion. Larry Ellison, the tech mogul who has USD 141 billion, is fifth.
Legendary investor Warren Buffett, dubbed the “Oracle of Omaha”, has USD 133 billion and is placed sixth. Once the richest man in the world, Microsoft founder Bill Gates is now seventh with USD 128 billion.
Steve Ballmer, the former Microsoft CEO, with USD 121 billion, is placed eighth. Mukesh Ambani is ninth with USD 116 billion. Larry Page rounds out the global Top 10 list with USD 114 billion.
