UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy arrives in India; to hold meeting with PM Modi

Just weeks after assuming office as the new UK Foreign Secretary, David Lammy reached India on Wednesday for his first official visit to the country.

Randhir Jaiswal, the official spokesperson of Ministry of External Affairs shared an image of the UK Foreign Secretary and stated that the two-day visit will strengthen the UK-India bond. David Lammy had previously visited New Delhi in February as Shadow Foreign Secretary.

“Warm welcome to UK Foreign Secretary @DavidLammy as he arrives in New Delhi on his first official visit since the assumption of office.

“The visit will strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries and will make the ‘living bridge’ between India & UK stronger,” the tweet read.

As per reports, Lammy will hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other high-profile officers and ministers. The India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) will be the highlight of the British official’s visit to India.

Later, on Wednesday, Lammy is scheduled to meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. He will also hold discussions with Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval.

Lammy will emplane for Laos on Thursday morning. The UK Foreign Secretary will attend the key ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ meeting in the country.
