An Indian embassy official was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside the mission premises here, officials here said.
Local police and the Secret Service are currently investigating the incident that occurred two days ago, including the possibility of suicide.
“With deep regret, we wish to confirm that a member of the Embassy of India passed away in the evening of 18th September 2024,” read and Embassy statement.
“We are in touch with all relevant agencies and members of the family to ensure the swift transfer of the mortal remains to India.
“Additional details regarding the deceased are not being released out of concern for the family’s privacy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family in this time of grief. We thank you for your understanding,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emplaned for the US for a three-day trip, from September 21 to 23.

While in America, Modi will take part in the Quad meeting, alongside counterparts from Australia and Japan. The meeting is hosted by US President Joe Biden.
The Indian PM will also take part in a bilateral meeting with Biden, attend a community event in New York and speak at the Summit of the Future event hosted by the United Nations on September 23.
