Former President Donald Trump registered a thumping victory in the ‘Super Tuesday’ primaries, further tightening his grip as the probable Republican nominee for his re-match against President Joe Biden in November.
California and Texas were among the fifteen states that staged nominating contests on Tuesday as the US is gearing up for the crucial polling to elect the next president of the nation.
For the Democrats, Biden is so far projected to win seats in 11 states that voted on Tuesday, which include Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont and Virginia.
Trump, on the other hand, fighting for the Republican nomination, is projected to win in nine states like Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Maine, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
Following his victory, Trump told his supporters, as quoted by CNN: “This was an amazing night and an amazing day, it’s been an incredible period of time in our country’s history.”
Biden warns against Trump’s return to power
Joe Biden warned that a second term of Donald Trump as President would mean a return to “chaos, division, and darkness”.
“Four years ago, I ran because of the existential threat Donald Trump posed to the America we all believe in,” Biden wrote in a statement, as quoted by CNN, highlighting progress under his administration on jobs, inflation, prescription drug prices, and gun control.
He also posted on X: “Today, millions of voters across the country made their voices heard—showing that they are ready to fight back against Donald Trump’s extreme plan to take us backwards.”
“Every generation of Americans will face a moment when it has to defend democracy. This is our fight,” he said.
Will Nikki Haley endorse Trump?
Haley has so far failed to put a major obstacle on Trump’s way of earning a nomination.
GOP candidate Nikki Haley says she has not made a final decision as to whether or not she would endorse former President Donald Trump if she ends her presidential bid, but her campaign is receiving a lot of feedback on the subject, sources familiar with recent discussions tell CNN.
Meanwhile, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is likely to win Vermont’s Republican primary, reported CNN.
