Varanasi stadium foundation ceremony: Indian cricket’s poster boy Sachin Tendulkar presents jersey to Narendra Modi with ‘NAMO’ written on it

Indian cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar has presented a jersey of the national team to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the foundation stone laying ceremony of a new international cricket stadium in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

The garment has 'NAMO' written on its back.

Sachin Tendulkar also shared an image of the moment on Instagram, earning 611,842 likes so far.

"It was an honour to be part of the foundation stone laying ceremony of the new cricket stadium in Varanasi – with Honourable PM Shri @narendramodi ji, Uttar Pradesh CM Shri @myogi_adityanath ji, BCCI officials, and other senior members of the cricketing fraternity," Tendulkar wrote on Instagram.

"The stadium can truly become an example for a thriving multi-sport facility in India," his post read.

The international cricket stadium in Varanasi, to be built at a cost of INR 330 crore (USD 39,708,801), will accommodate nearly 30,000 people at a time, the Uttar Pradesh government said in a press statement.

PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of International Cricket Stadium in Varanasi on Saturday (September 23).

The design of the international cricket stadium in Varanasi will depict the "essence of Kashi", the press statement read.

The roof covers will be crescent-shaped, floodlights shaped like a trident, patterns resembling bel leaves, and one of the structures shaped like a 'damru'.

“One place of Shiv Shakti is on the moon, while the other one is here in Kashi,” the Prime Minister remarked, as he congratulated everyone for this momentous feat.

Varanasi's international cricket stadium will be built on INR 121 crore (USD 14,559,893) land.
