Popular American fashion and lifestyle magazine Vogue drew criticism over after the release of its February cover page that featured US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. They were slammed by netizens online of lightening Harris' skin tone artificially.
The covers were posted on all of the magazine's social media handles. They went viral as soon as they hit the internet, but accusations of whitewashing soon cropped up.
On the cover, Harris is seen wearing a dark brown blazer with black pants and sneakers with pink and green drapes in the background, reportedly in reference to Harris’ college sorority.
Another picture featured her in a powder blue suit, her arms crossed, in front of a gold background.
Harris' team was reportedly unaware that the cover photo had been switched until the images were leaked, according to anonymous sources.
