With the summer season in full bloom, several states in India are reeling under extreme heat. The rise in Mercury has not only affected humans, but animals too. Recently, a young monkey reportedly suffered a heat stroke and fainted. Fortunately for the simian, a cop administered CPR and revived it.
The incident took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr. A video of the police officer treating the monkey has now gone viral on the Internet. Visual shows a cop pumping the monkey’s chest, in hopes of resuscitating it. The police officer then turns the monkey and runs its back, while pouring water. The procedure works, and the monkey shows signs of revival.

As per a Times of India report, the cop has been identified as Vikas Tomar, head constable at Chhatari police station. The incident took place on May 24.
Tomar, 51, told Times of India that he’s trained to handle emergencies, and responded to the distress. “Since the bodies of humans and monkeys are very similar, I tried to revive the monkey while my colleagues protected me from an agitated troupe. I pumped the chest for almost 45 minutes with intermittent rubbing and pouring little amounts of water into the mouth and finally it revived.”
TOI quoted veterinarian Dr Hari Om Sharma as saying: “The monkey suffered a heat stroke and fainted due to dehydration. Timely help saved its life. After it became conscious, we administered an antibiotic.”
Tomar said that since the revival, the monkey visits the police station daily and he’s happy to see the animal play there.
