Gomez sobbed inconsolably and said that all her people were being attacked and that she was helpless. However, she later deleted the video.

In the video, a visibly emotional Gomez was heard saying through sobs and tears, “All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something, but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.”

She also wrote, “I’m sorry”, with a Mexican flag emoji.

Soon after she shared the video, it went viral and the singer was subjected to massive backlash and trolling from a group of netizens.

She received a barrage of hate for speaking against Trump’s immigration crackdown, which made her delete the video eventually.

“Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people,” she wrote on Instagram after deleting the video.

Gomez’s video came hours after 956 individuals were arrested by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in a nationwide crackdown ordered by President Trump.

It is to be noted that the singer, who is a strong advocate of immigration rights, had earlier revealed in an interview that her aunt was the first person in her family to cross the US-Mexico border in 1970, followed by her grandparents.

In 2019, Gomez also produced a documentary called Living Undocumented, which showed the trials and tribulations of eight illegal immigrant families living in the US during the Trump administration.
