A video clip reportedly showing someone trying desperately to close a door during an Antarctic storm has gone viral, with over 24 million views on Instagram. The post, captioned ‘Typical workday in Antarctica’, was shared on Instagram by Tomasz Kurczaba, whose bio says he is the head of the 47th Polish Antarctic Expedition to King George Island.
It shows a person clad in cold weather gear trying hard to close a door during a violent snowstorm.
"Typical workday in Antarctica. 47th Polish Antarctic Expedition. King George Island," the caption of the post read.
In the clip, the door can’t be closed because of the wind. The objects inside the room are also seen moving because of the wild wind. At one moment, another person recording the video is then seen extending their arms while the other person tries to reach out for help.
Kurczaba shared the clip almost a fortnight ago and many people have commented and liked it since then. Internet users were left baffled and many assumed that the video was recorded on a moving train.
King George Island serves as an aerodrome for flights to Antarctica, and is known as the unofficial capital of the continent because of the numerous research stations there.
