Bollywood couple Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal got married in Mumbai on Sunday, June 23. The Lootera actress took to social media to share a note and a few pictures from the memorable day.
Along with the pictures, Sonakshi posted about the journey of her relationship with now hubby Zaheer, on Instagram.
“On this very day, seven years back (23.06.2017) in each others eyes, we saw love in its purest form and decided to hold on to it. Today that love has guided us through all the challenges and triumphs… leading up to this moment… where with the blessings of both our families and both our gods… we are now man and wife,” part of her caption read.
“Here’s to love, hope and all things beautiful with each other, from now until forever ❤️,” she wrote.
The message ended with both their names and the date.
The marriage was preceded by intense speculations, as rumours were rife that Sonakshi’s family wasn’t on board with her decision to marry a man from a different faith.
Zaheer, 36, whose full name is Zaheer Iqbal Ratansi, is a Muslim, belonging to the close-knit Khoja Shia community. Sonakshi is a Hindu. The two registered their marriage under the Special Marriage Act.
Earlier, Zaheer’s father had told Free Press Journal that the bride won’t be converting to Islam. “She is not converting, and that is for sure. Theirs is a union of hearts and religion has no role to play whatsoever,” he said “I believe in humanity. God is called Bhagwan by Hindus and Allah by Muslims. But at the end of the day, we are all human beings. My blessings are with Zaheer and Sonakshi.”
Meanwhile, one of the photos shows Zaheer kissing his bride’s hand, while another showed Sonakshi holding her father, actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha.
