To commemorate World Heritage Day, Dubai Customs organised numerous heritage functions. The events included heritage sessions to enlighten the participants with the local ancestors’ cultural heritage and preparation of traditional cuisines.
Speaking on the occasion, Khalil Saqer bin Gharib, Director of Corporate Communication Department, observed, “We want to raise awareness amongst staff and clients around the UAE of our rich heritage and its leading role worldwide as a place that disseminates knowledge, tolerance and openness”.
World Heritage Day was started in 1982 by International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and was later approved at the UNESCO General Conference in 1983.
The main aim of the World Heritage Day is to promote awareness about the diversity of cultural heritage of humanity, their vulnerability and the efforts required for their protection and conservation.
World Heritage Day falls on April 18 every year to celebrate the shared wealth of humankind.
