Wuhan coronavirus: First death outside of China, India confirms third case and other updates

The Wuhan coronavirus has spread throughout the world since its first appearance in central China in December, now having infected over 170 people outside of mainland China in over 20 countries. 

On Sunday, the first death outside of mainland China was reported from the Philippines – a  44-year-old Chinese man who flew in from Wuhan in January died on Saturday. He was the partner of a 38-year-old Chinese woman who was traveling with him, and was the first confirmed case in the Philippines.

India confirms third case

India has on Monday confirmed its third case of the novel coronavirus – all three cases are in the state of Kerala and are students who returned from Wuhan. 

"Third positive case of Novel Coronavirus patient, has been reported in Kerala. The patient has a travel history from Wuhan in China. The patient has tested positive for Novel Coronavirus and is in isolation in the hospital. The patient is stable and is being closely monitored," the Union Health Ministry said today in a statement.
